Although winter is often a busy time for roofing companies, the majority of their work is spent repairing storm damage rather than putting in new roofs. We go into more depth below, but there are a number of factors that make replacing shingles during the winter a challenging task. This doesn’t mean replacing shingles in the winter is impossible, but it does call for more expertise and consideration. When you need roof services in Cypress, TX, or the surrounding areas, give Southern Roofing Texas a call.
Shingles must be flexible to be properly installed on a roof. It is significantly more difficult to install shingles as the temperature drops because they become brittle and frigid. A brittle shingle is more prone to shatter when a nail is hammered into it. In cold weather, it's also not a good idea to walk on freshly laid shingles because it could crack them. For shingles to become flexible during the winter, they must be kept in a room at around 71 degrees for at least 24 hours.
Using asphalt shingles on your roof is best done during the summer. Asphalt shingles' adhesive properties change in the cold, making it harder for them to adhere to the roof. If shingle installation is required during the winter, we recommend using a different material.
